The short answer: build a flat side-view dragon across two pegboards, iron both sides, and connect the boards with the tape method. Green body, lighter belly, red or orange wings read instantly.
Dragons are a favorite bigger project: big enough to feel epic, simple enough to finish in one evening. Start with a profile view, which needs no complex shading.
Flat dragon plan
- Sketch the dragon on grid paper first: body line, head, neck, tail curve, and wings.
- Use 2-3 green shades for the body, a light belly, and red or orange for wings.
- Build across two boards, joining them with masking tape underneath so the seam stays aligned.
- Iron both sides fully; the design is long, so thin spots crack easily.
- Cool flat under a book, then trim melted edges with scissors.
Level up later
