The short answer: make two identical heart panels, iron them on one side only, bend a filler band around the outline between them, and fuse or glue everything together. It takes about an hour and teaches curved seams without much risk.
A flat heart is easy to bead, so the challenge is the depth between the two faces. The filler band makes that depth, and it bends because it is ironed on one side only.
Step by step
- Make two identical heart panels, about 15 by 13 beads. Small hearts are easier the first time.
- Iron both panels on one side only and cool flat.
- Make a filler band about three beads tall and long enough to wrap the whole outline.
- Iron the band one-sided, then bend it around the outline of one heart panel and fuse or glue it in place, a section at a time.
- Press the second heart panel onto the open side and fuse or glue the edges.
- Let it cool completely before handling, then touch up any loose seams.
Make it a gift
- Fill it: leave one short seam open, fill with small treats or confetti, then close it.
- Add a loop: fuse a small ring of beads on top before closing, then hang it.
- Patterns: use a heart pattern on both faces or keep one side plain.
- Mini version: use mini beads for a smaller, denser heart.
