How to Make 3D Perler Bead Food

The short answer: 3D bead food is simple shapes stacked: flat discs for cake layers, rings for doughnuts, cones and spheres for ice cream. Iron one side only so discs can curve slightly, then stack and glue. Start with a doughnut, it is the easiest.

Food reads well in pixel form because we all know what it looks like, and small mistakes are invisible at snack size. These are also the projects kids like most.

Easiest food first

  • Doughnut: one ring with icing on top, plus a second smaller ring as the hole. Glue the layers.
  • Ice cream cone: a flat triangle for the cone, a round disc bent into a dome for the scoop, glued together.
  • Cupcake: a trapezoid wrapper, a dome top, and a cherry bead on top.
  • Burger: stack flat discs: bottom bun, patty, cheese, lettuce, top bun.
  • Pizza slice: one flat triangle with topping beads, no 3D needed at all.

The stacking rules

  1. Make each layer as its own flat piece, ironed one-sided.
  2. Bend domes over a spoon or small bowl while warm.
  3. Glue from the center outward so no glue shows at the rim.
  4. Press each layer for ten seconds and let the glue set before adding the next.

The one-sided melt and dome bending are the same techniques from our 3D patterns guide, and food grids are in the pattern library. Beads, boards, and paper are in our shop.
