The short answer: tweezers pick up and place single beads without touching the beads around them. That makes three jobs easier: fixing mistakes, filling tiny spaces, and working fast. You can work without them, but they save a lot of fumbling.
Fingers do two things poorly: grab one bead from a pile without scooping neighbors, and drop a bead into a tight row without pushing the row over. Tweezers solve both.
What tweezers are actually for
- Precision placement: put a bead exactly on its peg without knocking the row.
- Corrections: lift one wrong bead out of a finished row without moving the neighbors.
- Small pieces: mini beads are hard to grab with fingers. Tweezers make them workable.
- Speed: after a few minutes of practice, tweezers are faster than fingers for single beads.
- Cleanup: picking spilled beads off the floor without picking up dust and hair.
Which tweezers to choose
Pointed precision tweezers with a fine tip work best for midi beads. Angled tips help if you rest your hand on the board. You do not need the craft-branded ones; a cheap pair of electronics tweezers does the same job.
