The short answer: flat pieces mount with push pins or adhesive strips, 3D pieces live on shelves or in shadow boxes, and heavy pieces get a proper mount. Match the method to the weight.
Mounting is about one question: how heavy is the creation and what surface will it sit on? A tiny flat heart on a corkboard is different from a full-board Minecraft sword on a bedroom wall.
Flat pieces
- Small (up to palm size): two push pins through bead holes, or a dot of removable poster putty on the back.
- Medium (up to one board): four small adhesive strips, one per corner, pressed flat against a clean wall.
- Large (multi-board): add a support pin in the middle of the top edge, and use strips rated for heavier weight.
3D and heavy pieces
- Shelves: the safest mount of all. Use a floating shelf for 3D creations like boxes, animals, or balls.
- Shadow box: deep frames hold 3D pieces and protect them from dust and bumps.
- Glue mount: for decorative items that never move, hot glue a small metal loop to the back and hang it from a nail.
