A coaster sits under a cold glass all summer, and condensation beads up between the bead holes. Two things stop that: a fully ironed surface and a sealing layer.
Step by step
- Iron both sides until the holes mostly close. This is the waterproofing that matters most.
- Let the coaster cool completely.
- Spray a clear acrylic sealer over both sides in a well-ventilated area.
- Let it dry, then add a second thin coat for extra protection.
What sealer to use
A matte or gloss clear acrylic spray works well. Brush-on mod podge also works and is easier to control on small pieces. Avoid anything labeled for outdoor or automotive use, which stays sticky and smells.
