How to Fix Warped Perler Bead Projects

The short answer: yes, most warps are fixable. Re-iron the piece under fresh parchment with even pressure, then flatten it under heavy books while it cools. One careful session usually does it.

Warping happens when one side of the plastic shrinks more than the other during cooling, or when a piece is picked up while still warm. The fix is the reverse: warm the whole piece evenly and let it cool flat.

The flattening fix

  1. Place the warped piece between two sheets of fresh parchment paper.
  2. Iron the whole surface on medium heat, slowly and evenly, until the piece softens.
  3. While it is still warm, slide it onto a flat surface and place a heavy book or cutting board on top.
  4. Leave the weight on until the piece is completely cool, at least ten minutes.

For stubborn warps, repeat once after cooling. Avoid ironing too long, which thins the beads and changes the look. If the piece is also over-melted, see our over-melted fix guide before flattening.

Prevention is easier: always let pieces cool flat under weight before moving them, and never hold a warm piece by one edge. More tips in our ironing guide.
