The short answer: iron the piece on one side only, let it cool, then glue a magnet or magnetic strip to the back. Five minutes of work and the piece is fridge-ready.
Magnets are the fastest way to turn bead art into something useful. Unlike keychains they never break or lose parts, and unlike frames they take up zero shelf space. A piece with a magnet behind it works on the fridge, a metal locker, a whiteboard, or the side of a steel shelf.
One-side ironing helps
Iron the front fully but leave the back barely melted. The back keeps a little texture, which makes the magnet surface less slippery. If you prefer a fully ironed piece, no problem, just use more adhesive or a stronger magnet.
Three magnet options
- Round craft magnets: glue one with hot glue for small pieces up to palm size. The strongest option.
- Magnetic strips: cut a strip to size and stick it on with glue or its own adhesive. Best for wide or heavy pieces.
- Self-adhesive magnet sheet: cut a piece slightly smaller than the bead art and peel and stick. Quickest, but weaker.
Size the magnet to the piece. A palm-sized piece needs one strong magnet or a couple of small ones; a full-board piece needs three or four spread across the back. Test the hold on the fridge before handing the piece to a child, so it does not drop mid-display. More display ideas in our display guide, and find magnet supplies in our shop.
