The short answer: yes. Perler and Hama beads are the same 5 mm midi size, melt at the same temperature, and sit on the same pegboards. You can mix them in one project without any issue. Just do not mix standard and mini beads in the same piece.
Mixing brands is so common that most experienced crafters do it without thinking. The only real work is matching colors, because each brand names its shades differently.
What mixes safely
- Standard midi beads: fully interchangeable between Perler, Hama, Artkal, and most generic brands.
- Mini beads: also interchangeable, as long as everything in the piece is mini.
- Pegboards: all major brands use the same peg spacing, so any board works with any bead.
- Ironing paper and technique: identical for every brand.
How to match colors across brands
- Compare beads side by side in daylight, not under a lamp.
- Test-fuse a small sample of both brands together to check the melt matches.
